Back From Malaysia...

Back from Malaysia…we survived!

Departure : 27th of December @ 1h30pm

Returned : 30th of December @ 9h30am

Came back with : OUR VISA!

First day, we took a ferry of 3 hours to Chumphon, on the east coast of Thailand (remember…we live on an Islands!). There, we waited 4 hours until we took our unexpected night train of 13 hours to Sunghai Kolok, close to border with Malaysia.

Depart: 27 Decembre @ 1h30pm

Retour: 30 Decembre @ 9h30am

Koh Tao, waiting for the ferry to come

Sunset on the Gulf of Thailand...on the way to Chumphon.

Island of Koh Tao...21km2...that is the whole Island from far!

Comfortable Ferry, Movie, AC...BEAUTIFUL!

A Little Movie from the sunset...a bit cliche, but so nice.

The ferry was excellent, movies, air conditioning…we could have stayed there, specially compares to the train!

From the 24th until the 29th of December, all the trains were full. But we HAD to go as our visa would be expired. No choice…we had to buy the last seats available: two seats in the fourth class (or something like that) with broken windows, broken seats and so many people that you can smell the human being from a distance! The best, is that we had to do a 13 hours drive in this!

But we survived and luckily we were so tired that we managed to sleep most of the trip (we are not gonna talk about the muscle, the back and the neck pain we had after but…).

View from the train...but it looks so much better on the picture than it was in reality.

Arrived in Sunghai Kolok, we jumped on a scooter taxi for a short drive until the border. We got our visa stamped and went through the border Thailand/Malaysia walking!

On the Malaysian side, we took a taxi straight to the Thai Consulate to apply for our visa. In 10 minutes, we were done and ready to offer our self something well deserved: first a cold beer and second, MC Donald!

16h00: We found a room in a “hotel” and lay down…promise, we both looked like Zombies!

Felt asleep and woke up at 8h00pm for a second well deserved food: Pizza Hut!

We don’t have does in Koh Tao, neither Dahab…so we had too!

Next morning, we walked all around Kotha Barruh (city where we were) to find a coffee for Marie and something to eat fro Bas. On this as well, we managed!

Malaysian Border.

11h00am : We went to pick up our Passport with our new visa and than took the road back straight to the border. Got a stamp out, another ride on the scooter taxi until the train station, a couple of drinks and some food.

14h00pm: We were back in the train, in the sleepers this time (wow…that is really a good investment!), ready for another 13 hours (which as been 16 finally!), but this time in a proper position : horizontal.

6h00am (30th): We arrived in Chumphon right on time to be able to catch the fast ferry to Koh Tao.

9h00am : We were HOME!

***Sorry if it's underlined...I dont know why and dont know how to take it off!!!

We've Got THEM!

Marie the Blonde...she didnt realise there is better place to wait for the train!

Viva the smoking section!

What a nice bed...

This is what they call here the “VISA RUN” and now we know why the operation merit such a name. OUFFFFF!

Now we have a visa for two months plus an extension of 30 days which will have to do in Koh Samui (another Island south of Koh Tao) end of February.

Honestly, even with all the stress and the “not knowing where to go” feeling that comes with such an adventure, we had a great time. Good laugh, good stories again to remember.

We are now back in our little home. Bas is working, Marie is starting a new course as assitant and we are both waiting for the arrival of Bart, brother of Bas…very soon!

Don’t worry Bart, we won’t take you on a visa run…it will remind you Cairo too much!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL, A GREAT AND BEAUTIFUL NEW YEARS!

A Beautiful Way to start a new year

…2010...

you smell really good!!

There was a bit of cloud…our last note was simply honesty. Hard to hide, even through the words…there was evidence that stress was around us.

Such a support between two persons…no matter what! Be there in the good, the bad, le bien, le mal…just be there…there is no anxiety that can win against that.

Like we were saying in the previous note…travelling the way we do is not always easy. We live, 100%, each minutes, but sometime people have to stop and think…and than it become stress! It will be too beautiful if we wouldn’t have to do that…but hey…NO!! On the other hand…if it would be that easy, there wouldn’t be any challenge and it would be boring!

Anyway…all this to say that yesterday night Bas got a job!!!!!!! And two shoulders went back down…back to where they should be.

This little love managed to get a permanent job in Buddha View, starting on the 1st of January 2010…happy new year Bas!

It’s an impressive achievement which he really deserved.

The person who wouldn’t see his potential in such position would be blind…the General Manager isn’t!

We are both surfing on beautiful white clouds. We are both thinking that Koh Tao just gave us a nice invitation on the Islands, a little sign. We are both…so happy to be who we are, where we are, with who we are.

It seems that it’s the beginning of a new chapter. After “Part One: Egypt”…it’s now “Part Two: Thailand” which is starting.

The book of two persons living their dream…together, with the same ambitions and passions.

2010 will be good…we can smell it!!

To all of you, we wish you the best Christmas time and an amazing year. In 2010…go for the dreams…be strong and smile to each little morning! It is so worthed!

We hope we will see you all in those next 365 days. Thailand, Egypt, Holland, Canada…We think we will be cruising around.

Sun is shining down here…if you need a bit of it…let us know! We will probably be here for another couple of months.

A lot of love from us…and again, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Familia and friends!

Here are the two Thai With a french canadian and a dutch look!

It's been a couple of days...we were running between the water, the shop, the house, our bed...and a couple of good and cheap (indeed!) dinners.

Life is still good, visibility getting better, dive center getting more and more busy...and time running for Marie which starts to be stress for her IDC!!
We are getting back to our normal rhythm of a day at work, a couple of beers at the bar...and than home, with a movie and food on the bed!!

Things are good, a bit stressy but good. We are floating on white and black clouds. Sometime we feel things are going really well, sometimes we are scared and have the impression that we are walking on eggs...fragile little eggs!

But we are together, strong and just hope for the best. Traveling the way we do is not always easy...it can also be risky.
Time will tell, but one thing for sure, we definitely have to get use to be the new heads in the place...it's not Dahab anymore...and we have to built up again.

But we are confident, there is a lot of good things here for us (except the Toads...of course!).
Day by day, the plan : not to have any plans! That is the best plan!
BE together and enjoying each minutes, each moments!

We are gonna spend christmas at Buddha View on the 24th and will have to hit the road again (but without the 50kg of luggage this time!) probably around the 27th for our Visa Run.
Destination : Malaysia. Duration: 3 days. Reason: Getting a new Visa of 2 months with an extension of 4 weeks that can be done later in Koh Samui (a bit closer than Malaysia!).

We are aloud to repeat the process 3 times. Which means, 9 months can be done this way. After those 9 months, there is still an option, but we won't be aloud to get a visa in Malaysia anymore. Than, we will have to hit the road and go to Laos!!
But anyway...we will start with the 2 months + extension and than will see!!

So who ever said we couldn't stay in Thailand no more than 3 months...was wrong!!! It is still possible!!

There is a lot of party going on in Koh Tao...christmas time and new year are approaching!
We are good people (I think we are getting old!) and stay at home quiet...until now we managed!!

We love you all and will talk to you soon.

A beautiful Christmas for all, be good, be nice and enjoy the moments!

Big big kisses from your two happy crazy people!!!

Bas and Marie

Good to stay at home...but it seems that there is here no restrictions on the volume and the time that the party should end...yesterday, 6h20am, we were having our coffee with a psychedelic trance music background! Thats a nice way to wake up...after a good sleep with ear plugs!

What will happen to you if you smoke cigarette...we are planning to make a campaign with this picture!! What do you think Bart???!!!

Beautiful. Thanks to our friend skype to give us those moments!

It's from 10 days ago, but we though it was good to had. Two tourists which didn't see the rain since a while!

10 of December…Koh Tao!

Raining season is about to end. Sunny days are getting warmer and warmer.

We are doing really good! We moved in our new room right next to our next house, as we have to wait until it will be finished building. Nice and big room away from the noise and the Russians morons (sorry but we had two that were shouting next to our old room…in the middle of the night…probably to drunk to realise that their radio was to loud, too drunk to realised that they were even singing louder and louder…too drunk to realise that it was 4am).

Anyway, all this to say that we hate them!!!

Our new spot is beautiful and comfortable. Travelling with our Italian Espresso Machine, we also found in the shop a small electric pan (don’t know our to describe it) and it only takes 30 minutes in the morning until the coffee is ready!!

The Technique: 1-Make everything ready the night before

2- Place the machine on the BBQ

3- Next morning, 5h30am, one of the members of the room has to wake and turn on the BBQ

4- Go back to sleep

5- 6am, your coffee is ready to be enjoyed in the comfort of you room!

Our Fridge...finally! And a TV with a lot of Thai version movie that don't fit with the lips of the actors!

A Bed and a "Kitchen"

The super machine...give it the name you want...but it works!

The best news of all is that Bas already started to work! No time for not even one fun dive, he found him self starting on a 4 packs open water course for which (of course…as he could sell a fridge to Eskimos!) he also sold an Advanced Course starting after tomorrow! Beautiful!

Marie made 4 dives until now, fun dives, to learn about the dives sites and the environment of Buddha View.

As the rain season is just about to end, conditions and visibility are still quite affected. First dive: Visibility of 2-3 meters! But from now on, day after day, it will get better.

Yesterday, she had a Bull Shark swimming around her and as she was in the middle of a school of thousand of Rabbit Fish, there is also a sailfish that pass by on a crazy speed…hunting them.

The diving is different than Dahab. Coral, fishes and visibility are not as nice as what we get in the Red Sea. Still, it’s new and interesting to have to use a compass to find your way back to the boat…which people rarely manage!

Boat are…hum, interesting! Different shape…more like fishing boat, but they do the job! No shore dives, all dive sites can only be reach with them.

Bas is spending a lot of time in the swimming pool, teaching, and when the day is over, we hang around the Island, discovering new spot, new restaurant.

A good life, We have to admit, it is a really good life style down here. People are more and more nice to us and nice and slowly, we are making our place.

Marie is diving, assisting, studying and preparing her self for the IDC.

The place is brilliant…if you have a chance, come and visit us!

Talk to you soon for others stories!

Bas En Marie

From Bangkok to home

Bangkok

Landing in Bangkok after many years in Egypt…feels strange! Things are organised, people show you the proper direction and refer you to the proper people. They show you that even in the worst chaos there can be an order…hum, we though that this was not existing anymore. But hey…NO…it’s just normal!!!

Not that we don’t love Egypt, but here…OUF, there is something different!

We’ve spend two nights in a beautiful hotel call Bihman Inn…they have the best beds we’ve been sleeping in since ages and a super view on a small river, brown…but oh la la so charming!

Walking down in the street is walking in between hundreds of different kind of smells. Many little counter on wheels cooking some of the best traditional Thai meal. Pad Thai, proper spring roles, fried peanuts, little fried things with a sauce that just to look at it…you feel the fire in your eyes and the best of all, the counter with fruits like fresh and sweet pineapple ready to eat in a plastic bag with a long tooth pick!

Other than eating (which we did most of the time!) we’ve walk to the Grand Palace, pass by a couple of temples and experienced the super water taxi!

It consist in one long flat boat with and engineer making the sound of a diving compressor, taking on board maybe 35 peoples…cruising on another brown canal. As soon as the taxi start moving, we discovered quite fast that we were actually cruising on the sewage system of the city!! Well, that’s what it smell and that’s why they put big plastic around while moving: simply to avoid getting a drop of this water in your face!! Loved it…good laugh and really useful transportation avoiding the traffic jam and the heat from the street.

On the third of December, we moved on to the train station, ready to jump on a night trip, a 7 hours on a 2nd class wagon, destination: Chumphon.

The most interesting part of the trip : the smoking section. Where: In between two wagons. Risky: yes. Funky :oh yes! It’s like surfing on a metal plate attaching the two cars. Beautiful!

Early in the morning, 5h50am, we arrived at Chumphon, city from where we had to drive until the pier to catch our ferry to Koh Tao.

The pier is about 1 km long…it’s made of little pieces of woods with a lot of space in between…and it was basically hard for us with all the luggage’s. But hey, come on, that was the last step before arriving to destination.

Cruising on the golf of Thailand…was really rough! It was 2 hours of heavy waves, 2 hours of plastic bag distribution from the crew!

But at 9h00am…we saw the Islands…this amazing Islands full of trees, plants and massive rocks in between.

And now, here we are. Feeling that it’s our new home, we already met the people with who I will do my IDC (instructor course) in January and with who we will start diving, assisting and maybe working in the next couple of days.

The place is called Buddha View and is located in the south part of the Island (the Islands is only 21 km2 anyway!). We are now staying in a room right next to the water but yesterday we’ve been sorting out a couple of things already.

First, we got our super power scooter, which we will rent for the time being. Second, we found a long-term accommodation, small little house in which we will move in the next couple of days as they are still building it.

We still didn’t get into the water as we had to sort out a couple of things, but today we have a meeting with the course director of Marie and than…we think the action will start soon!

Also, we still have to explore the Islands…and now that Bas has got his limousine, we are going to drive around today.

Koh Tao is like the Dahab of Egypt. Less commercial than the others Islands, you find here mainly backpackers coming from all around the world. Diving is for sure the first economy of the Islands. Camps and hotel are located all along the beaches…and for 500bath (10 Euros), you get a beautiful room with hot water!!

The weather is brilliant. A bit of rain, still, but the sun always ends up by taking over. Water temperature: 28c degrees!

Yesterday, a group from Buddha View saw a Whale Shark…so they are still around and we won’t wait to much to go visit them!

A couple of new pictures…and we’ll talk to all of you soon.

Big Big Kus!
